This morning, I decided to check out the www.intriguegraphics.com web statistics. It has been a while since I last looked at them, so I figured it would be worth my while to see where we’re at.
I logged in to the web stat thingie on our website control panel and ran reports. The first one was a summary for the complete 2008 year. The second one was a summary for 2009, which is just January and a little over half of February.
Even though there’s just a month and a half worth of data for 2009, it was immediately clear that there is still some very useful data in that report. I don’t think the total numbers are all that important. What I was looking for was to spot any kind of trend. Yes, indeed, there is a definite trend happening.
To compare apples with apples, first thing I did was to look at Jan-Feb of 08 and anyalyze that period next to the same period of 09.
It was like night and day.
We are getting a lot more visitors this year and they are looking at more pages on our site for a longer duration.
It’s all right there – the stats tell the whole story. We had redone our web site towards the end of last year and are actually still tweaking things. The visitor spike began around August and September, which jives with the time that the site was being redone.
The other noteworthy item was the resurrection of Intrigue’s blog. By simply making it active again, and adding more content on a more frequent basis, I’ve confirmed that people are finding us through the blog. Usually it’s a search term that brings people in, and they land on the blog.
As I said before, the total numbers aren’t great, but it’s the upward visitor trend that is very encouraging. What we will be doing in the near future is to start a big promotional push. So far, we haven’t really done that, and that’s a primary reason why the total visitor numbers are low. But with a little bit of hard work, and spreading the word about Intrigue’s print, design and photography services, we may be able to direct more traffic to our site.
That should be exciting to watch for in the web stats!
