“The desire to create is one of the deepest yearnings of the human soul†– Dieter F. Uchtdorf
But what happens when we hit a creative block? Getting the flow back into your creativity can be a little tricky. You scroll through endless Pinterest boards, you swipe through your Instagram feed but still nothing comes to mind. What next? Where do you find inspiration? I’ve come up with a list of tasks that have helped me be more inspired with my artwork and in my day to day life.
1- Change your Routine
Many get into a day to day routine. They eat the same meal, they walk the same route, and they see the same people. Getting stuck in the same routine can be very un-inspiring. Your days become predictable, and you’re most likely not going to find anything new and inspiring. Switch it up! Wake up a little earlier. Go for a walk. Change it up and you might see something new or even interact with different people, this can trigger some of that needed inspiration.
2- Find your Way Back to Nature
We tend to get lost in the digital world. We are on our phones and tablets all day. Digital devices now make it easier for us to work even when the work day is over. Most of our days are spent in the car, at a desk or in our homes. Taking a few minutes every day to step back, slow down and enjoy nature can be a breath of fresh air -LITERALLY- The beauty of nature with all of it’s colors and shapes can be
extremely inspiring and motivating.
3- Field Notes
Carry a small little notebook in your pocket or bag everywhere you go. Whenever you have an idea, you’ll have a spot to write them down and never forget. I’ll sometimes cut out magazine clippings or fonts I like and stick them in the book for some extra inspiration.
4- Books
I’m a huge fan of any design book. Home decor, DIY and recipe books are just a few of my favorite topics. I always aim for the books that have great layouts and beautiful typography. In my opinion, all types of design influence each other.Book References
